# Amir Aman, software engineer

> Software engineer shipping real products and odd experiments.

Canonical: https://www.asgerami.com/

I'm Amir Aman, a software engineer in Ethiopia. I build production web apps with TypeScript and Next.js, Android apps with React Native, and backends in Node, Python and Go. Lately: MCP tooling for AI agents, a chess engine trained from scratch, and creatures that evolve to walk in your browser.

Based in Ethiopia (GMT+3). Founder of [Driftwatch](https://driftwatch.et/). More about me: https://www.asgerami.com/about/

## Now

- **Founder:** Building Driftwatch, a breaking-change radar for third-party APIs.
- **Freelance:** Building web platforms, Android apps and backends for clients.
- **Training:** Teaching Nimzo, my from-scratch chess engine, to play past 1000 Elo.

## Selected work

### [Driftwatch](https://www.asgerami.com/projects/driftwatch/)

A breaking-change radar for the third-party APIs you depend on. It watches vendors' OpenAPI specs, diffs every release, and publishes only the changes that break callers to a free public feed, with JSON, RSS and an MCP server.

- Year: 2026
- Role: Founder
- Live: https://driftwatch.et/
- Stack: TypeScript, Next.js, PostgreSQL, Prisma, Cloudflare Workers, MCP

### [Ambulo](https://www.asgerami.com/projects/ambulo/)

Jointed creatures evolve to walk, climb stairs and chase a lure. Every limb runs its own neural network, a genetic algorithm scores thousands of them in a WebAssembly physics engine, and the whole thing runs in the browser with no server and no AI API.

- Year: 2026
- Live: https://asgerami.github.io/ambulo/
- Source: https://github.com/asgerami/ambulo
- Stack: TypeScript, React, Three.js, Rapier, Web Workers, Vite

### [Wrangl](https://www.asgerami.com/projects/wrangl/)

An open-source CLI that turns any REST API into an agent-ready MCP server in one command, so tools like Claude and Cursor can call it directly.

- Year: 2026
- Source: https://github.com/asgerami/wrangl
- Stack: TypeScript, Node.js, MCP, Docker, PostgreSQL

### [Nimzo](https://www.asgerami.com/projects/nimzo/)

A chess engine built from scratch: an AlphaZero-style ResNet with PUCT Monte Carlo Tree Search, a binary training-data pipeline, a UCI interface and a desktop GUI. No borrowed engine code and no pretrained weights.

- Year: 2026
- Role: Solo build
- Source: https://github.com/asgerami/nimzo
- Stack: Python, PyTorch, MCTS, UCI, Kaggle T4

### [Mesob](https://www.asgerami.com/projects/mesob/)

A shared inbox and AI triage for businesses that sell over Telegram. Messages are deduplicated, queued in Postgres and triaged rules-first, so most traffic never reaches a model and nothing invents a price.

- Year: 2026
- Role: Solo build
- Source: https://github.com/asgerami/mesob
- Stack: TypeScript, Node.js, PostgreSQL, Telegram Business API, LLM

### [iConnect](https://www.iconnect.plus/)

A scalable event management platform: Next.js frontend, Node.js backend, and Chapa payment gateway integration for secure transactions.

- Year: 2025
- Role: Full-stack developer
- Live: https://www.iconnect.plus/
- Stack: Next.js, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS

## More projects

- [cellvm](https://github.com/asgerami/cellvm) (2026, Personal): A compact stack bytecode VM in Rust with an explicit load, verify, link, execute pipeline. A safe verifier proves the invariants that the executor's unsafe fast paths rely on, and four fuzz harnesses try to break them.
- [CheckFlow](https://www.asgerami.com/projects/checkflow/) (2026, Personal): A facility access and check-in system: QR-coded guest cards, reservations, and live check-in tracking, with an admin dashboard for staff.
- [EventOS](https://www.asgerami.com/projects/eventsos/) (2026, Personal): A unified event management platform with registration, ticketing, QR check-in, attendance tracking, and real-time analytics - all in one place.
- [Good News Ethiopia](https://www.asgerami.com/projects/good-news-ethiopia/) (2026, Personal): A bot that reads Tikvah Ethiopia's public Telegram channels, uses Gemini to keep only genuinely good news, translates it into English and posts it to its own channel every 30 minutes.
- [Hours & Pay](https://www.asgerami.com/projects/) (2026, App): An offline Android time card in English and Spanish: track jobs, rates, overtime, breaks and tips, then export a PDF time card or a CSV. No account, no server; everything stays on the phone.

An essay on Ethiopia's energy crisis.
- [Why I'm Falling in Love with Go: A Recovering JavaScript Developer's Perspective](https://www.asgerami.com/blog/why-im-falling-in-love-with-go/) (2026-02-17): After years in the JavaScript ecosystem, a shift to Go solved real problems: tiny binaries, instant startup, and concurrency that actually makes sense. Here's why a Node.js dev is smitten.
- [The AI Bubble: We’re Building Cathedrals for a Religion That Doesn't Exist Yet](https://www.asgerami.com/blog/the-ai-bubble/) (2026-02-09): The AI hype is cooling, but let’s be clear: it isn’t dying. It’s just hitting a wall of reality. An opinion piece on the current state of AI investment.
